Going into Sunday’s much anticipated matchup between division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks, there were injury worries floating around that might toss a giant wrench in the MVP talk surrounding SF quarterback Brock Purdy.
And the talk just got louder.
During the third quarter of the Week 5 game, wide receiver Deebo Samuel went down after being tripped up on a 2-yard rush, which ended in a fumble. While he was able to make his own way to the sideline, it was announced that he has been ruled out for the rest of the game due to a hamstring injury.
The WR is known to have a nagging history of hamstring injuries, including the one that shut down his 2020 season.
The veteran had two catches for 21 yards and two rushes for 4 yards before his injury.
This comes on the heels of losing some major playmakers for the Niners already: fullback Kyle Juszczyk, defensive lineman Nick Bosa and James Thompson Jr., and safety Marques Sigle. Demarcus Robinson, Deshaun Stribling, Ricky Pearsall and Christian Kirk are on injured reserve.
Good news is, despite the plethora of injuries, Purdy has shown all his haters that he has no plans of slowing, especially when the game is down to the wire.
So far, the game has issued some insane highlights, including Mike Evans playing with two broken ribs and a Stockton product Brandin Cooks touchdown pass from Purdy.
Also, a bunch of turnovers. Because, sure.
